I have short curly hair with many layers and I need a way to style it.?

I'm mixed, part asian, part black, and part white. I've had thick curly hair ever since forever and when I discovered the flat iron, I fell in love. However, I never really realized how time consuming it was, and how hard the upkeep is. I feel like my life revolves around my hair. Now, I'd like to find a way to style it either naturally or have it professionally chemically straightened without looking like I have a lion's mane. Any suggestions?
