Is there a good way to cut my hair short?

I had long wavy hair which as a stay-at-home mom and a full time college student I wear in a ponytail all the time. I cut 5 inches off my hair when I got glue in it the other day. Now it is time for a change and I want to cut it kinda short, think early mid 90s style. I also want to do it at home (I should add I am cheap :)) Any advice?

Get a pair of professional hair-cutting scissors. Also, if you have a friend or relative who is capable of doing it correctly, ask them to cut the back. If you have a picture of what you want your hair to look like, you can use it as a guide and it might make it easier. Good luck!!!

yes, I have curly hair too and cut it myself.

Wash and comb hair out. While it is wet and combed good flip your head over and collect all you hair in you hand directly in the center of the top of your head. Stand up and hold hair high and strait above your head directly over the middle of the top of your head. Then cut an inch or 2 off all in one cut. When your hair falls down it will be perfectly layered. on the ends - but it will not be too noticable as being layered. The layers will be very gradual. Then your curls will look fuller and better too.

If you want a layered look on your own. Put a pony tail in your hair. The higher you position the pony tail in your hair the longer the layered cut will be. If you make a pony tail high in your head and cut the pony tail out, it will be a long layered cut. Lower in your head it will be a shorter layered cut.
