Messy matt looking short hair?

I got my hair cut a couple of weeks ago but don't like how spiky he's cut it. It's about 1 1/2 - 2 inches long and I think he thinned it quite a lot at the top so it's quite neat and spiky. What I want is a messier choppy look with little parts being slightly longer or shorter than others and a very slight mohawk.

So... I've decided to buy a pair of normal hair scissors and a pair of thinning ones to do the touch up myself. I think the only problem is the tips of the hairs so will only be cutting off a very small amount. Can anyone give me any tips or techniques? I always style it with very hard wax or clay but with this cut it gets too spiky and even.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

try twisting the hairs together and then using the thining shears at an angle, start at the top and do a couple of gentle cuts the lenght of the twist (don't chop too hard, you'll cut too much out) for different lengths try the normal scissors at an angle and try move your hand closer and further from your head as you 'round

You'll need someone to check it over when you are done (the back is almost impossible to do right)

you won't get it right first time but remember, it grows back!

alternativly you could just go back to the hairdresser adn say you don't like it and get them to sort it out, they are normally pretty good about that sort of thing

I would leave it to the professionals, cutting it you self is a big mistake. i no its not the answer you wanted but please take my advice.

dont cut it yourself . if its that short you will cut your fingers . i think the problem may be with your styling product . try getting a soft fibre putty let your hair dry and then apply the product . alternatively , you could mix the product you have with a little mousse or conditioner to soften it .

if you have to cut i , i sugest supporting the hair with a comb so your fingers arent involved.
